Te Kāika
Te Kāika is a kaupapa Māori health and social hub, bringing GP, dental, gym and wraparound services together for the community it serves. Findable designed, made and installed a bilingual wayfinding system that carries the manaakitanga of the place from the street to every clinic door.
Challenge
People arrive at a health hub for appointments that can be stressful, often for the first time. The wayfinding had to reduce anxiety, not add to it - unhurried, genuinely bilingual, and warm - while making dentistry, the gym and the clinics easy to find across one campus.
It also had to honour te reo Māori as a first language of the place, from the name on the building to the smallest directional cue.

Findable carried Te Kāika from the first site walk to final install as one team, so the welcome on the wall matches the intent behind it.
Our Approach
We mapped the whole visit - arrival, reception, waiting, clinic - and designed a bilingual family that leads with te reo Māori and stays plain and generous in size.
Dimensional letters give the entrance warmth and permanence against the brick, and campus totems split the site into dentistry, gym and clinics so anyone can self-navigate on arrival.
The System
The installed system covers the whole campus:
- Dimensional building identification
- Bilingual directional totems - dentistry, gym, clinics
- Reception and waiting-area identification
- Clinic, accessible and amenity signage
Outcome
First-time visitors move through the campus without needing to ask, and the community sees its language on the wall - part of the welcome, not a translation.
Designed, made and installed by one team, the bilingual system reads as a single, consistent whole and can grow with the services it supports.
